The reason why an elevator pitch is called an elevator pitch, is because of the limited length. The idea is, that you should be able to do your pitch in the time that you spend with (f.e. your boss) when you are in the elevator. Since you usually don’t spend more than 20-30 seconds in an elevator, this is why it’s called an elevator pitch.
